Milton Bradley, a leading American toy maker, began in 1993 licensed sales of Tenyo products under the "Magic Works" brandname. Advertised nationwide on television, these products soon became bestsellers in the U.S. market. Soon thereafter, Milton Bradley's parent company, Hasbro, undertook to market the line throughout the world. Mark Setteducati created the idea of Magic Works. Below, you will find a side by side comparison of the MB version and the original Tenyo version.
MB's Magic Works Series on left. . .Original Tenyo Series on right..
.
The Knight's Tomb (Diabolicus)
....
The MB version favours a 'Knight' design whereas the original has an 'ESP' flavour.
The four sides of the block feature a Sword, Gauntlets, a Shield and a Cross.
The outer box has a knight in battle armour.
Coin In The Crypt (Crystal Pyramid)
.....
The clear pointy pyramid has been substituted for a safer square cover.
The lions keep the cover in place. The colours too have changed
from green and yellow to grey and blue.
Money Morph (Metal Matrimony)
.....
The cover favours a different design to the original and notice that the table is
cut differently too. The original does not have the eight nodules to
keep the coins in place. Also, it is made to use US Dimes and not
US Quarters which is the case in the original version.
The Phantom Key (Zone Infinity)
.....
Not much has changed in this version apart from the design engraved on the
key which is an eye instead of the word "Tenyo".
The Rope of Calcutta (Sutekina Trick)
.....
Of all the variations, this is the one that has gone through
the most changes - all of it.
Twisted Pencil (Pencilia)
.....
Not only has the colour changed to a brighter blue, but some wavy and triangular
etchings grace the product too. Also, a yellow stripe has been printed on
the revolving section which helps reinforce the image of the illusion.
The Mysterious Queen (Transpa Vision)
.....
The main difference here is that the MB version is made much deeper than the
original which helps conceal the secret more. Also a different card
is supplied to that of the Tenyo version.
Severed Skeleton (Zig Zag Cig)
.....
The dummy cigarette has been replaced with a slender Mummy idol. The main feature of this
is that a sword can pierce the Mummy whilst in a tri-sected position. Even with the sword
impaling the Mummy and remaining in view, the Mummny is restored. A nice touch.
Mystery Dice (Flash Dice)
.....
. .
The Flash Dice case itself snaps together in the middle instead of the top just sitting on the bottom.
The blue carry case is nicely embossed. It is molded with the words "Mystery Dice"
sticking straight out of the center.
Vault-Vision (Vault-Vision)
..
..
The MB version has the words Vault Vision printed on it whereas the Tenyo version has Money Game
printed on it. Other than that, there are no other differences.
There were other Tenyo tricks made by MB that didn't undergo any physical changes.
They made exact versions of:
Eclipse (retitled to Double Vision)
Superspike (retitled to Dark Dagger).
Crystal Cleaver (not retitled)
